Founded in 1973 we are a volunteer run friendly thriving Society with a membership of approx 1200. We exist to provide information to members through our full colour magazine TRACKS (see below or here) and our website. We also produce a series of comprehensive market leading quality spotting books, some of which are unique to ICRS. The books are continually improved year on year with additional information and new titles. We also organise several Members Only visits to railway facilities. All this for a very reasonable Membership fee of just £12 (see Join Us).

External websites and downloadable documents open up in a separate window. Please remember to refresh your cache each visit to get the latest info and forms as we regularly update the website.

Access to the TRACKS LIBRARY and STOCK CHANGES pages will be password protected for Members Only from 26/12/25 so a good reason to join.

TrainSpotting App for iPhone & iPad

TrainSpotting is the ultimate user-friendly app built by a fanatical train enthusiast & ICRS member. The app compliments the ICRS paper books with an extensive database of locomotives (diesel, electric and preserved mainline steam), Diesel and Electric Units, Industrial locos, all London Underground stock plus increasing numbers of preserved and scrapped stock. Trams and all Loco Hauled Coaching Stock are also included.
The app is normally £9.99 via the App Store but is FREE to ICRS members (as long as you remain a member during the life of the subscription) which gives you the basic database updated annually. However, should you wish to pay a Premier Service subscription option is available which is updated at least once a month (including all TRACKS updates) but usually several times a month.
You can log a sighting with just a number or you can add: date, location (three-letter station codes supported), a photo and notes. Or you can use the Haulage function to add complete journey information including: number, location and times of departure and arrival plus photos and notes. Ideal for RailMiles users.
You can review your data in several ways: via date, location or by class, Operator, Name or Depot. You can choose to include or exclude scrapped locos from the Browse page.
